Seekho — learn the basics

How to use Kharchly

A complete walkthrough of every screen — Bahi, Bills, Ghar Kharcha, Nivesh, Hafte ki Baat and Poochho.

Kharchly is a record keeper for Indian households. It does not connect to your bank and it never tells you what to buy or sell. You log what came in and what went out, and Kharchly keeps the monthly maths — your poora hisaab — in one calm place. This guide covers every feature, in the order most people use them.

1Pehla kadam

Create your account and finish onboarding

Sign up with your email and a password. Onboarding asks three short questions so the first screen is not empty.

  • Tap Create account, enter your name, email and a password of at least 8 characters with letters and numbers.
  • Step 1 asks your city and phone number — used only to label your own records.
  • Step 2 asks your usual monthly income so the dashboard can show what is left.
  • Step 3 asks for one repeating bill (rent, EMI, school fee). You can add more later.
  • Your data is tied to your account, so it survives a phone change or reinstall.
2Ghar ka panna

Read the dashboard

The home screen is the month at a glance: money in, money out, what is committed to bills, and what is genuinely free to spend.

  • The top cards show income, spending and the balance for the current month.
  • Month split is a donut of where your spending went, category by category.
  • Upcoming shows the bills due next, with days remaining.
  • Every number comes from entries you logged — nothing is estimated or imported.
3Bahi

Log income and spending

The Bahi is your daybook. Add an entry in a few taps and tag it to a category so the donut and summaries stay meaningful.

  • Tap Add entry, choose Kharcha (spend) or Aamdani (income).
  • Enter the amount, pick the date and a category — groceries, travel, health, bills, and so on.
  • Add a short note if you want to remember the context.
  • Tap any row in History to expand it and see the full record: transaction ID, date, category, merchant, source and note.
  • Delete lives inside the expanded row, so nothing is removed by accident.
4Receipt scan

Scan a bill instead of typing

Take a photo of a shop bill, printed receipt or UPI screenshot — or pick one from your gallery — and Kharchly fills the entry for you.

  • In the Bahi, tap Scan receipt and either take a photo or choose an existing one.
  • Kharchly reads the amount, date, shop name, category and the UPI or bill reference number.
  • Check the reading, correct anything that looks off, then save. You can always retake the photo.
  • If the same reference number is already recorded, Kharchly stops the save so you never double-count a payment.
  • Scanned entries carry a Receipt tag, so you can tell them apart from manual ones.
5Ghar Kharcha

Track recurring family costs

School fees, tuition, ration, house help, medicines, milk — the costs that come back every month for the household.

  • Pick a common preset or type your own cost with its monthly amount.
  • Kharchly totals your committed household spending for the month.
  • That total is subtracted from your income so you see what is actually free.
  • Anything added here also appears in Bills, so due dates stay in one list.
6Bills

Set repeating bills and reminders

Rent, EMIs, insurance premiums, subscriptions and fees — recorded once, tracked every month.

  • Add the bill name, amount, due day of the month and a category.
  • Kharchly shows days remaining and warns you before the due date.
  • Choose how many days ahead you want the reminder.
  • Tap Mark paid when it is settled; it rolls over to next month automatically.
  • Tap Edit when the amount changes — rent revisions, loan changes — or Pause a bill you no longer have.
7Yaad dilana

Get reminded on time

Reminders reach you on the device, not just inside the app.

  • Allow notifications when Kharchly asks — on the installed app these arrive as normal phone notifications.
  • In the browser, Kharchly uses your browser's notification permission instead.
  • A digest of what is due is prepared for you so nothing depends on opening the app that day.
  • You can turn reminders off for any single bill without deleting it.
8Nivesh

Keep a manual investment ledger

SIPs, mutual funds, stocks, fixed deposits and gold — recorded by hand, so nothing is linked to your broker.

  • Add a holding with its type, invested amount and current value.
  • Update the current value whenever you check your statement.
  • The Spread donut shows how your money is allocated across types.
  • Gains and losses are shown as plain figures — Kharchly never recommends a buy or a sell.
9Hafte ki Baat

Read your weekly summary

A short, factual weekly story of your money — the habit that keeps the Bahi up to date.

  • See what came in, what went out and how the week compares with the last one.
  • See your top spending categories for the week.
  • See what is due in the next seven days so there are no surprises.
  • Everything is built only from your own logged entries.
10Poochho

Ask questions about your own records

A plain-language assistant that reads only what you logged. It answers; it does not advise.

  • Ask things like 'what is due this week?', 'how much did I spend on groceries?' or 'what did I invest this month?'.
  • Answers are drawn only from your entries, bills and holdings.
  • Poochho never suggests products, never nudges you, and never guesses missing data.
  • If something is not logged, it will tell you so instead of inventing a number.
11App jaisa

Install Kharchly on your phone

Kharchly installs like a normal app — full screen, home-screen icon, no app store needed.

  • On Android Chrome, tap Install app in the menu or the Install button in Kharchly.
  • On iPhone, use Share, then Add to Home Screen.
  • It opens full screen with the Kharchly splash and works with your saved account.
12Khaata aur suraksha

Manage your account and data

You control your profile, your password and whether your records exist at all.

  • Update your name, city and phone from Profile.
  • Change your password any time; forgotten passwords are reset by email.
  • Only you can read your records — every row is locked to your account on the server.
  • Deleting your account removes your records permanently; it cannot be undone.

Common questions

Does Kharchly connect to my bank account?

No. Nothing is fetched from a bank, UPI app or broker. Every figure comes from what you log or scan yourself.

Will I lose my data if I change phones?

No. Your records are saved to your account, so signing in on a new device brings everything back.

Does Kharchly give investment advice?

Never. It reports your own numbers. It does not recommend, rate or solicit any product or security.

Can two receipts of the same payment be recorded twice?

No. If a receipt carries a reference number you already saved, Kharchly blocks the duplicate.

Is Kharchly free to use?

Yes, the record keeping described in this guide is free to use.
